Mike Ware: Inspector General and Fraud Preventer

This is Hannibal “Mike” Ware.

He was the Inspector General for the Small Business Administration from 2017 to 2025.

What does an IG do? I will point you to the description on the Council of the Inspectors General on integrity and Efficiency web site.

“Per the Inspector General Act of 1978, as amended, the Inspector General’s mission is to:

  • Conduct independent and objective audits, investigations and inspections
  • Prevent and detect waste, fraud and abuse,
  • Promote economy, effectiveness and efficiency,
  • Review pending legislation and regulation, and
  • Keep the agency head and Congress fully and currently informed.”

All Inspector General reports are open to the public. Anyone can view one from any agency’s IG just by visiting the oversight.gov website.

So let’s go check on Mike’s reports!

Specifically, let’s look for any reports about the Paycheck Protection Program being offered after the COVID-19 pandemic.

It looks like he’s issued 64 reports just about the PPP!

In a sworn affidavit, he details his work on this particular issue:

Mike is one of the good guys. He identified $200 billion in potential fraud. He is personally is responsible for returning $40 billion to the Treasury of the United States.

We should thank Mike.

In return for his amazing efforts of not only finding actual fraud, waste, and abuse, but getting back a huge chunk of it, what was his reward?

Hint #1: notice his term ended in 2025.

Hint #2: notice I said “sworn affidavit.”

Mike was one of almost 20 Inspectors General illegally fired late on a Friday night. Trump did it then to be outside of the normal news cycles, to sweep it under the rug.

The above block of text comes from the lawsuit he and several other IGs have filed for wrongful termination.

IGs are the people that are actually looking for fraud.

For some reason they have been fired and replaced by Elon Musk’s Department of Government “Efficiency.”

So far, the DOGE website hasn’t identified one cent of actual fraud.

Sure, they found some things that were legally spent but the administration does not agree with. That’s not fraud.

They found some things they clearly don’t know what it is and just decided to get rid of it. That’s not fraud.

They found some things that were already ending yet they take credit for. That’s not fraud.

Look for yourself.

Sorry, I’ll take Mike’s 64 IG reports and $40 Billion in returned funds over a bunch of techbros who (arguably) know how to code a website.

Especially ones who, only 2 months ago, were tweeting things like “I just want a eugenic immigration policy, is that too much to ask?” At least that guy is no longer part of DOGE…

Oh, never mind.
