Every time I think I’ve seen the worst, he proves me wrong.

The President of the United States posted on Truth Social this weekend, suggesting that American citizens should be sent to a prison in El Salvador for what amounts to minor property crimes.

I want to be clear. I don’t believe anyone should be damaging property.

Even though Cybertrucks seem to have no problem defacing themselves lately, people shouldn’t be helping them along.

Protesting and the freedom to peacefully assemble is a right guaranteed by the First Amendment. I fully support the use of our rights in this manner.

If people cross that line into vandalism or destruction, they should face legal consequences. That’s how our system works.

But, do these acts warrant being shipped to a brutal prison camp in a foreign country for twenty years of hard labor? No. And yet, the President is openly cheering for it.

Remember, this is the same prison he sent asylum seekers to last week, in violation of a court order, without any trial or due process.

Put yourself in this scenario: Imagine you just went on a trip outside the United States. You’re at the airport on your way back, and going through customs someone said your name is on a terrorist watch list. You’re then thrown into a holding cell, before being shipped off to a prison camp in El Salvador.

Did this happen? Honestly, I can not say, because none of the people last week had so much as a hearing. Nobody knows if they are evil terrorists, people who faced a clerical error, or anything. We didn’t bother to check before depriving them of their rights.

Now, Trump wants to extend that cruelty to people that are definitely American citizens, all to protect his billionaire friend’s company that is losing value. But remember, he wants you to shut up about the price of eggs.

Maybe the Tesla protesters should just call their demonstrations “a day of love.” Presidential pardons for everyone!

That wasn’t the end of his diarrhea of the keyboard this weekend. He followed that post with another gem this morning:

That’s right! The President is hyping a cryptocurrency named after himself, and that he and his sycophants have a stake in seeing rise in value. This isn’t just self-promotion. It’s corruption at the highest level. He’s leveraging his influence to pump up a private financial asset that benefits him directly.

From threatening to exile American citizens to third-world prison camps, to using his platform to boost his own crypto, this isn’t leadership. It’s a dictator’s playbook.

I fear what comes next. And I fear how many people will still pretend this is normal.

Please wake up, Republicans! I ask you to do me one favor. Pretend this was Biden or Obama doing these things. Think about what your reaction would be.

It should be the exact same reaction you have to Trump doing it.
