So this is something I started writing with the intention of posting on my personal Facebook wall, but the blog format makes more sense.

I am disgusted by the vile hatred that Donald Trump has unleashed. I am saddened by so many who feel emboldened to spread that hate. It’s awful what has happened to this country in just a few short months.
If you think that what’s happening is okay, or worse, you cheer it on, do us both a favor and unfriend me now.
I was told yesterday by two Facebook “friends” that undocumented immigrants don’t deserve emergency medical care.
I am not even talking about regular health care. Emergency.
If they’re bleeding out in the street and need an ER… nope, they don’t deserve it.
One of them said to me, if given the choice of who gets treatment, they “would choose the American every time.”
This was after he accused me of dehumanizing him because I told him I hoped he found a way to stop hating people who aren’t like him.
Meanwhile, when I countered the other for the lies she was spreading claiming democrats shut down the government to “give health care to illegals,” she told me this was just a difference of opinion and that we can have those.
Lies are not an opinion.
And lies used specifically to deny an entire group of people emergency care are heinous.
But hatred seems to be all one side wants to give. If you have that hatred inside of you, I want nothing to do with you. It’s not healthy for me to be around your toxicity.
If you support federal agents spraying people in the face with pepper spray from point blank range, just for exercising their First Amendment right to assemble and express their disagreement with the government’s actions, unfriend me now.
If you support Trump completely abandoning all of the guardrails of our justice system by putting his own defense attorney (who’s never prosecuted a case in her life) in so he could get an indictment against his “enemy,” even after being told there was no case by his own former appointee, you can unfriend me now.
If you support 84-year-olds having their heads bashed in for peacefully protesting against this regime, unfriend me now.

If you support federal agents using a five year old autistic child as a pawn to get to her parents, unfriend me now.
If you support the president of the United States posting an AI generated video starring Russ Vought as “The Reaper” while he gloats over threats to fire thousands of workers, just because he wants to, unfriend me now.
If you’re okay with police brutality, like this because a woman wants to stay with her husband who is being kidnapped by ICE, unfriend me now.
If you support federal agents deliberately targeting the press by taking aim and shooting rubber bullets at a reporter during a news report, unfriend me now.
If you believe that a judge’s house should be firebombed because they ruled against Donald Trump, unfriend me now.
If you support ICE attacking an apartment building in Chicago military-style, repelling out of a helicopter, only to drag naked children out into the streets, laughing “fuck them kids,” unfriend me now.
If you support the American military being used as law enforcement, and us living under an undeclared martial law, while our cities will be “training grounds” as they fight the President’s opponents, unfriend me now.
If you support agents just assuming brown people are not Americans, and therefore they can assault them, unfriend me now.
If you support a Chicago City Council member being roughed up and manhandled for speaking – saying the fact that any person in this country, whether here legally or not, has constitutional rights (while repeatedly being told “no” by the ICE agents), unfriend me now.
If you support someone threatening to run me over because they disagree with my views, and then bragging about it on social media, unfriend me now.

If you cheered sending human beings to concentration camps like “Alligator Alcatraz,” calling it that because you hoped people would be eaten by alligators in the Florida swamp, unfriend me now.
If you supported the actual insurrection against our government, when an angry mob stormed our Capitol to prevent the peaceful transfer of power because your side didn’t win, unfriend me now.
If you support masked agents of the government shooting a pastor in the head with a pepper ball while he prays, unfriend me now.
If you support this over-escalation and terrorization of a family with a one month old in the car, due to a violation on the same level as a speeding ticket, just because you think these people deserve this treatment, unfriend me now.
If you support federal agents pointing weapons at bystanders, leaving their fingers on the trigger, after demonstrating that they have no ability to control their weapons, and are unable to control their emotions to the point they’re taunting the crowd with their weapon drawn, unfriend me now.
If you support agents detaining a person with broken leg in a hospital, under a phony name, chained to a bed, questioning him while he’s under the influence of medication and in pain, and not allowing him to know the charges against him nor speak to a lawyer or any family members, unfriend me now.
If you supported the wholesale pardon of traitors and insurrectionists, who were trying to overthrow the government of the United States, people who are such upstanding citizens that one of them was just arrested for threatening to kill as US Senator, unfriend me now.
If you support pepper spraying a moving vehicle which has done nothing except be occupied by brown people, without regard for the danger of incapacitating the driver, as well as indiscriminately spraying a 1 year old child in the back seat, you can unfriend me now.
Remember, the President of the United States said, at the memorial service for his supposed friend, “I hate my opponents and don’t want the best for them … I can’t stand my opponent.”
If you support him, you support that.
You can unfriend me now.
These are just some of the hundreds or thousands of examples of things that would be unthinkable a year ago, but have now been normalized. I didn’t have to search too hard to find these examples, either.
And every one of the above events show how this administration has made hatred its M.O. If you support that, unfriend me now.
I’m so saddened, exasperated, horrified, frustrated, and disappointed by the hatred that has been sanctioned, and even glorified, by this regime.
I don’t want it anywhere near me. I don’t want to be associated with that level of depravity.
Empathy is a virtue, not a sin.
If you believe otherwise, unfriend me now.
