I was just blown away after hearing that Trump commuted convicted former US Representative George Santos’ prison sentence.

So, first, that long rant about Blumenthal… I do not believe that anyone should lie about their military service.
I also do I think anyone should get their doctor to write a report claiming they should be deferred from the draft for bone spurs, but that’s another argument entirely…..
Anyway, let’s see what crimes Santos committed… From that BBC article linked above:
Santos’s downfall began after the New York Times in 2022 published an investigation revealing the freshman congressman had lied about his CV, including having a university degree and working for Citigroup and Goldman Sachs.
From there, the lies continued to pile up, including allegations that he stole money from a fundraiser for a dying dog and that he lied about his mother surviving the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Shortly afterwards, local and federal officials began to investigate.
He was eventually charged with 23 federal felony crimes, and in 2023 he became the first expelled member of Congress in more than 20 years, and only the sixth in history.
A report from the House ethics panel accused him of misusing campaign funds for personal benefits, including Botox and subscriptions on the OnlyFans website.
Hmm. 23 felony crimes, stealing from charities, misusing campaign funds on OnlyFans subscriptions vs. claiming he served in Vietnam when he served in the US during the war… OK.
Anyway, let’s get back to Trump’s commutation.
His argument seems to be that the commutation is because he’s been “horribly mistreated” in prison the past few months.
Marjorie Taylor Greene has been pushing for this, and specifically says that Santos was tortured by being “put in solitary confinement.”

Let’s just see what Santos said before he was sentenced….

I guess he got what he asked for, and now that’s being used as the reason to release him. Weird.
